About The Event

How the Electrical Grid Works (and sometimes doesn’t) - A walk through the mystery of how your lights stay on: Ever wonder where your power comes from, what causes blackouts (including the recent one in Texas and problems in right here in Montgomery County), what is alternative energy and how you can choose it over traditional sources? Dr. Jerry FitzPatrick, a senior scientist and division chief at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST, a federal research lab within the US Department of Commerce) has worked in the power and energy field for over 30 years, and has served on a Montgomery County committee studying reliability of the electric grid. He will show, in layperson’s terms, how the power grid works and why you should care, and answer any questions you may have. Please join us on Monday, March 22 from 7-8pm.
