About The Event
As the holiday festivities approach, our hearts often turn to those who are in challenging situations, such as those living in a homeless shelter. As a way of supporting our community, Widow Care is collecting much needed items requested by a local women’s shelter.
The Interfaith Works Women's Center is a 70-bed short-term emergency shelter serving approximately 300 women per year. Case managers work with clients towards a rapid exit housing plan from the shelter by referring them to housing programs, vocational programs, making medical referrals, mental health referrals, and connection to social services benefits.
A list of the items requested by the shelter can be found here: https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/1AON375ARWUQP/ref=hz_ls_biz_ex. Please feel free to substitute equivalent items purchased at an alternative store. The women enjoy receiving cards, so anyone who participates can include a card with their donation if they would like to. Diana, one of our very gracious members, will be collecting the listed items and delivering the goods to the shelter. The last day to deliver donations to Diana will be December 22nd, 2020. To receive the address for dropping off donations, please email dmartin65@verizon.net.
We suggest that if people want to donate other things, they bring those items to the clothing center directly. Items that are not on the list, such as new or gently used clothing and accessories, can be delivered to the Interfaith Works Clothing Center, located at 751 Twinbrook Pkwy, Rockville, MD 20851. The clients are taken to the clothing center to get any clothing they might need for themselves and their children, or for crucial events, such as job interviews or cold/inclement weather, and the clothing is provided to individuals in the county for free. Please note that the clothing center address is different from the shelter address at Taft Court. If you have questions, please email info@widowcare.org for additional information.
Thank you for helping us give back to the community!
